Im September verbrachte Emma eine Woche bei ihrer Tante, die auf einem Bauernhof in einer hügeligen Gegend lebt. In September Emma spent a week with her aunt, who lives on a farm in a hilly area. Auf dem Bauernhof gab es Ziegen, zwei Esel und einen Hahn, der Emma jeden Morgen um fünf Uhr weckte. Am Fuß eines Berges fanden sie den Eingang zu einer kleinen Höhle. At the foot of a mountain they found the entrance to a small cave. Emma wollte hineingehen, aber ihre Tante meinte, dass dort vielleicht Fledermäuse leben. Emma wanted to go in, but her aunt said that bats might live there.
Später sahen sie eine große Herde Rinder. Later they saw a large herd of cattle. Oben auf dem Hügel setzten sie sich ins Gras und aßen ein Brot. At the top of the hill they sat down in the grass and ate a sandwich. Von dort konnten sie das ganze Tal bis zum Wald sehen. From there they could see the whole valley as far as the forest. Emma hatte noch nie so eine schöne Landschaft gesehen. Emma had never seen such a beautiful landscape.
