On Saturday, Lucas and Emma went to their aunt's, who has a farm in the country. This year, her trees had produced twice as many apples as usual. In one morning, they picked four crates of them, and each crate weighed about ten kilos. So altogether, they picked forty kilos of apples!
In the afternoon, they decided to make jam. Emma cut the apples in half, and Lucas got the sugar ready. For a kilo of fruit, you need seven hundred grams of sugar or so. But after an hour, they were already short of sugar. Lucas went to buy some in the village, and he came back with a dozen eggs as well.
In the evening, Lucas weighed all the jam: there were eighteen kilos altogether. They were extremely tired, but very pleased with their day. "You'll have to take half of it, or I'll never be able to eat it all!" said their aunt. » Lucas laughed: "If we had another year like this one, we'd open a shop!"
